Boiler Repair Dublin: Fast Fixes by RGI-Registered Engineers

Updated 11 June 2026 · DublinPlumbing

When the boiler stops, the house stops — no heating, no hot water, and usually no warning. The good news: most boiler breakdowns in Dublin are caused by a handful of repeat offenders, and most are fixable the same day by an engineer who knows what they're looking at.

Our Dublin plumbing team repairs all major boiler brands across Dublin city and county, with RGI-registered engineers, no call-out fee, and honest advice on whether a repair is actually worth it.

The faults behind most Dublin boiler breakdowns

No heat or hot water usually traces to a failed component — a diverter valve, pump, ignition or a printed circuit board. Pressure dropping every few days means water is escaping somewhere: a weeping radiator valve, a hidden pipe leak, or an expansion vessel that's lost its charge.

On the first frosty mornings of the year, half the calls are one fault: a frozen condensate pipe, where the boiler's drain line ices up outside and the boiler locks out to protect itself. Banging or rumbling ('kettling') points to scale or sludge in the system, and a boiler that starts then cuts out repeatedly is usually short-cycling on a sensor or circulation fault.

Tell us the symptom and any error code on the display when you call — it often means we arrive carrying the right part and the heating is back the same visit.

Why 'RGI-registered' is the first thing to check

In Ireland it is illegal for anyone who isn't a Registered Gas Installer to work on a gas boiler — it's a safety law, not a marketing badge. An unregistered repair risks carbon monoxide, voided insurance, and problems when you come to sell the house. You can verify any installer's registration on rgi.ie, and a genuine RGI engineer will show their ID card at the door without being asked. Every engineer we send is RGI-registered and fully insured.

Repair or replace? An honest answer

A typical boiler repair in Dublin runs €80–€250 depending on the part. A full replacement is a different league — €2,685–€4,450 in the current Dublin market. So the real question is whether this repair is the last one or the first of many.

Our rule of thumb: if the boiler is under 10–12 years old and the fault is a single component, repair it. If it's older, parts are getting scarce, and it's eating a repair every winter, the maths starts favouring replacement — a modern condensing boiler also burns noticeably less gas. We'll price both honestly and never rush you into the bigger job.

An annual service is the cheapest repair you'll ever buy

A gas boiler service in Dublin typically costs €99–€120, and it's the single best way to avoid the emergency call-out: it catches weak components before they fail in January, keeps efficiency up, keeps most manufacturer warranties valid, and includes the flue and carbon monoxide checks that quietly matter most.

If your boiler hasn't been serviced in over a year — or you've just moved into a house and have no idea when it last was — book a callback and we'll get an RGI-registered engineer out at a time that suits.
