Emergency Plumber Dublin: 24/7 Call-Outs, At Your Door Within the Hour

Updated 11 June 2026 · DublinPlumbing

A plumbing emergency never picks a convenient hour. Pipes burst at 2am, boilers die on the coldest Sunday of the year, and a blocked toilet in a one-bathroom house is urgent by any definition. This page covers what genuinely counts as an emergency, the first things to do while help is on the way, and what an emergency plumber in Dublin should — and shouldn't — cost you.

If you need help right now, skip the reading: call 01 524 0871. Our Dublin plumbing team answers 24/7 and is typically at your door within the hour, anywhere in Dublin city or county.

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Call immediately — any hour — for: a burst pipe or any leak you can't stop, water coming through a ceiling or near electrics, no water supply at all, a blocked toilet in a home with only one, sewage backing up into the house, a cylinder or tank leaking from above, or no heating or hot water when someone vulnerable is in the house.

Some jobs feel urgent but can safely wait for a daytime visit, which is usually cheaper across the trade: a dripping tap, one cold radiator, a slow-draining sink. If you're not sure which side of the line you're on, ring anyway — we'll tell you honestly on the phone rather than sell you a night call-out you don't need.

The first five minutes: what to do before we arrive

Water: find your stopcock and shut it. In most Dublin homes it's under the kitchen sink; in many terraces and newer estates there's also an outdoor valve at the property boundary, under a small metal or plastic cover near the footpath. Then open the cold taps to drain the pipes — the leak slows fast once the water has somewhere better to go.

Electrics: if water is anywhere near sockets, lights or the fuse board, switch off the affected circuits at the board. Don't touch anything electrical with wet hands.

Gas: a suspected gas leak is not a plumbing call first — it's a Gas Networks Ireland call. Get everyone outside, don't flick switches, and ring their 24-hour emergency line on 1800 20 50 50. Once the supply is made safe, an RGI-registered engineer (every one of ours is) handles the repair.

How our 24-hour call-out works

You call, a real person answers, and a local plumber rings you straight back — usually within minutes. We'll ask a few questions, tell you what to switch off, and give you an honest arrival window. Across Dublin city and county — D1 to D24, Fingal, South Dublin and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown — that's typically within the hour.

The van arrives stocked for the common emergencies: pipe repair fittings, stopcocks, ballcocks, flexible hoses, drain rods and spares for the usual cylinder and toilet failures. Most emergency jobs are made safe and fixed in a single visit; if a part has to be ordered, we make everything watertight first and return with the part — you're never left with an open pipe and a promise.

What an emergency plumber costs in Dublin

Straight numbers: across the Dublin market, emergency and out-of-hours call-outs typically cost €120–€180 for the first hour, and many firms add a separate call-out fee of €40–€95 on top — sometimes payable even if no work happens.

We keep it simpler: no call-out fee at any hour, a clear price quoted once we've seen the problem and before any work starts, and a 12-month guarantee on the repair. An emergency is stressful enough without discovering the price afterwards — request a callback or ring us and you'll know where you stand before anyone lifts a tool.
